Prime Minister will meet with counterpart Giorgia Meloni in Italy; all eyes on potential meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada
On the 14th of June, Prime Minister Modi will be present at the 50th G7 meeting, which will take place in Apulia, Italy. at recognition of India's eleventh participation at the G7 summit, the country has been called upon to serve as an outreach country. In order to further strengthen India's position on the international scene, it is anticipated that the Prime Minister may participate in several bilateral meetings with foreign leaders. Following his re-election as Prime Minister for the third straight term, Modi is doing his maiden abroad travel at this time.
Vinay Kwatra, the Indian Foreign Secretary, stated, "(The visit) will afford (the Prime Minister) an opportunity to engage with other world leaders present at the G7 summit on issues of importance to India as also to the Global South."
A participation in the outreach session is scheduled for Modi on June 14th. In his statement, Kwatra stated that the primary areas of attention will be artificial intelligence, energy, Africa, and the Mediterranean.
The Indian government has been making persistent efforts to find solutions to global problems, such as those pertaining to peace, security, development, and the preservation of the environment. Two sessions of the Voice of the Global South summit have been organized by India so far. The purpose of these sessions is to bring attention to the issues and interests of the Global South, as Kwatra explained further.
Kwatra stated that the relationship with developing nations and emerging economies, with a particular emphasis on Africa and the Indo-Pacific region, migration and climate energy linkages, food security, and artificial intelligence are among the most important priorities for the current year. He also mentioned that the conflicts in Russia, Ukraine, and the Middle East, along with their implications for the global agenda, are also priorities.
The Prime Minister's participation would also provide a timely opportunity to follow up on outcomes of the G20 Summit held held under India's presidency last year," Kwatra emphasized further.
He stated that meetings and conversations would be held between Modi and the leaders of the G7, as well as those of the outreach countries and international organizations. Giorgia Melloni, the Prime Minister of Italy, will also meet with Modi. During their meeting, the two leaders will discuss strategic collaborations that will center on defense, energy in the Indo-Pacific region, and advances in science and technology.
